Alameda Health System (AHS) invites nominations for the newly launched Daisy Awards that honor and recognize exemplary nurses at all AHS facilities. Twice a year nurses from Ambulatory, John George, Post Acute and Alameda, Highland and San Leandro Hospitals will be awarded the DAISY Award. DAISY Award Honorees will be recognized by leadership at their facilities and will receive a certificate of achievement, DAISY pin and the extraordinary “Healers Touch” sculpture that represents the bond between a nurse and their patients.

“DAISY Award honorees are nurses who personify our commitment to superior patient experience and who consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and compassionate care,” said Ro Lofton, AHS Chief Nursing Officer. “They are an example and role model for our care teams and DAISY is a way to engage and elevate our profession.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is a national and international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after his death due to complications of the auto-immune disease of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) in 1999. During his hospitalization, the family was grateful for the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his family and after his death they felt compelled to thank nurses in a very public way.
“We’re thrilled to be launching Daisy Awards at AHS. Nurses are the backbone of our system and so many go above and beyond that we needed a way to recognize and reward them,” said Olivia Kriebl, Director Care Experience.
